Shell Mound County Park
Cedar Key, Florida
We spent an enjoyable three days in Panama City Beach, Florida visiting with my
son and his family. Its always nice to get together on our biennial visits with
them.
We depart Panama City Beach for the gulf coast of central Florida. On this leg
of our journey we visit Cedar Key while we camp at Shell Mound County Park. We
enjoy visiting this area whenever we visit Florida.
Shell Mound is a pretty decent county campground located nine miles from Cedar
Key. It can get noisy at times when fisherman launch their airboats to go
clamming (early morning), and upon their retun (late afternoon).
Cedar Key is an island city off the northwest coast of Florida, in the Gulf of Mexico. The population was 702 according to the 2010 census. It's noted for Cedar Key National Wildlife Refuge, a group of small islands with trails and rich birdlife. Cedar Key is a popular fishing and clamming area.
We will spend three days on this visit to Cedar Key.
Tomorrow another adventure begins.
