Breckenridge, Colorado
This is our last day at Heaton Bay Campground in Frisco, Colorado. We will spend the day at Breckenridge as a tribute to all the wonderful times we had here on our winter skiing vacations. The rainy weather has cleared up, providing us with a beautiful sunny day for our visit to Breckenridge.
Breckenridge is one of our favorite ski towns. It is a beautiful town, with colorful boutique shops, ski shops, candy shops, bakery shops and numerous excellent bars and restaurants. The Blue River flows through the heart of the town, running parallel to Main Street. It is a rapidly flowing river with mini rapids created by the small rocks and boulders lining the riverbed. There is a paved river walk that provides residents and visitors with an opportunity to enjoy the beauty and sounds of the river up close.
We walked the length of the town, twice, then did the river walk. It was an enjoyable experience to window shop the colorful shops and view the magnificent mountains surrounding this beautiful town.
We had spotted a homemade cookie shop earlier, so we returned to sample their offerings. There were several varieties of cookies, all about four inches in diameter. They had a special, buy 6 and get 2 free. Yep, we bought the special… $16.50 worth! But, oh, they were so worth it!
We sat on a bench by the river, munching on our cookies, looking up at the ski runs on the mountain and reliving the experience of skiing down some of those ski runs. Wonderful memories from the past flashed through our minds.
Tomorrow another adventure begins.
