Stillwater Campground - Grand Lake, Colorado
Change of plans. We were planning to depart the Stillwater campground today and travel to Breckenridge, Colorado, but potentially severe thunderstorms are forecast to blanket that entire region, including here at the Rocky Mountain National Park, for the next two days. We have decided to stay here through Wednesday and postpone our travel plans until the weather clears out on Thursday.
This is one of the benefits we enjoy while traveling throughout the U.S. We seldom set our travel plans to be at a specific place at a specific time and, therefore, have the flexibility to change our travel plans as circumstances dictate.
We spent the morning relaxing in the comfort of our cozy Casita Trailer. Our Dish Tailgater Satellite system provides us with excellent television reception wherever we are, so we are able to keep current with our favorite programs. This afternoon we traveled the eight miles to the Kawuneeche Visitor Center to access the free WiFi Internet service. This is a nice feature for those visitors that are unable to access the Internet through their cellular service provider.
Following our visit to the Kawuneeche Visitor Center, we visited the quaint little mountain town of Granby, Colorado. During our previous visit we spotted the Los Amigos Mexican restaurant that looked interesting, so we decided to sample their cuisine. They did not disappoint! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. This time of the year is their brief slow season, so we had the place to ourselves for an early dinner at 4:00 p.m. Once the snow starts to fall, the ski resorts will open and the throng of skiers will keep this restaurant busy through the winter and spring.
Our appetites refreshed, we returned to the campground and had glazed donuts for dessert. A long walk in the morning is in order, to burn off some those outrageous calories we consumed today.
Tomorrow another adventure begins.
