Grand Canyon National Park – South Rim
Grand Canyon, Arizona
We departed the Walmart in Paige, Arizona at 8:00 a.m. We arrived at the Mather Campground in the Grand Canyon National Park – South Rim at 11:00 a.m. We will spend four days here.
Mather Campground has 319 individual campsites and 7 group sites. There are
no hook-ups. The campground consists of seven loops:
Aspen Loop: Sites 1 – 59
Fir Loop: Sites 60 – 106
Juniper Loop: Sites 107 – 184
Maple Loop: Sites 185 – 200
Oak Loop: Sites 201 - 264
Pine Loop: Sites 265 – 319
Sage Loop: Group Sites S1 – S7
Each loop has restroom facilities with flush toilets. There is a building at the entrance to the campground that has laundry facilities; washers are $1.75 and dryers are $1.25 for 25 minutes. Fee-based hot showers are available in this building; $2.00 for 8 minutes. There is a sewage disposal station located at the entrance to the campground.
We had reserved campsite 110 in the Juniper Loop, by viewing the campground map online. We really lucked out! This is a very nice campsite, compared to some of the other campsites we could have selected, that were not as nice. Only about 25% of the campsites are occupied.
We walked through all of the campground loops this afternoon, logging in a 4.86-mile walk at 7000 feet above sea level.
Camping Fee: $18.00 (50% discount with Golden Age Pass)
Camping Site: 110
Total miles traveled today: 133
Route Traveled:
South on U.S. highway 89
East on Arizona highway 64 to Grand Canyon – South Rim
Tomorrow another adventure begins.
