Pie-O-Neer
Pie Town, New Mexico
After finishing our 4-mile morning walk through the BLM camping area, we visited Pie-O-Neer, which is just a short walk from our campsite at the Lester Jackson Park Campground. It was a brisk walk, since the temperature was in the high 50’s.
Pie-O-Neer is open on Friday-Saturday-Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
As we entered Pie-O-Neer we were greeted warmly by the owner Kathy Knapp. What a warm, inviting atmosphere! It was as if we were visiting family. A wood burning stove provided a welcome comfort from the cool temperature outside.
We skipped breakfast this morning in anticipation of sampling some homemade pie. Pie-O-Neer is not a café, so we were surprised to see they offered a vegetable quiche and green chile stew, in addition to their homemade pies.
The vegetable quiche is made with spinach, red bell peppers, cheese, and egg backed in a lard-free crust.
The green chile stew is made with pork, potatoes, pinto beans, green chile, onion and garlic.
Sharon and I ordered the green chile stew. It was absolutely delicious! After finishing our stew we just vegetated for a while, drinking coffee and people watching. After some time had passed, it was time for pie. Sharon had a slice of the cherry pie and I had a piece of the blueberry pie. After more coffee and people watching, I ordered a piece of sweet potato pie with pecans to share with Sharon. No doubt about it, Pie-O-Neer really knows how to make pies. They were some of the best we have ever tasted. We ordered a whole cherry pie to pick up at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Tomorrow another adventure continues in Pie Town.
