University of Arizona
Tucson, Arizona
We took a self-guided tour at the University of Arizona today. This is a beautiful campus with several facilities available for visitors to explore. During our tour, we discovered the Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium.
The Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium is Southern Arizona’s only planetarium. Hands-on exhibits and sky shows highlight the wonders of science. Visitors can tour the heavens via the observatory’s 16-inch telescope. We booked the "Tour of Our Solar System" presentation scheduled for 6:00 p.m. This presentation is shown in the Flandrau Dome, a 360-degree planetarium theater (similar to an I-MAX theater environment).
The Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium is also home to the University of Arizona Mineral Museum. The museum contains an exquisite collection of 27,000 minerals, gemstones and meteorites from around the world, emphasizing the minerals of Arizona and Mexico. We visited the museum in the morning and were awestruck by the brilliance of colors and geometric configurations displayed in this priceless collection.
Tomorrow another adventure begins.
